ABOUT US
We are a tenacious alliance of concerned individuals who have a passion for keeping southeastern Vermont’s waters healthy. SeVWA consists of a volunteer Board of Directors and a team of active volunteers and contractors who carry out our mission.
We are citizen scientists. Our flagship project is water quality monitoring for a long-term database that the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) uses to pin-point impaired waters in the state. Where impaired waters in our region are located, SeVWA works with the DEC and the local town to restore the waterway to health. In this way our day to day work feeds into our overall mission and the goals of partner organizations.
BOARD MEMBERS
We are partners with Watershed United Vermont, the Connecticut River Watershed Council, and several of our town Conservation Commissions.
In doing our day to day water quality work and publishing the E-coli results bi-weekly during peak recreational times for the public, we are dispensers of information. Our work shares a picture of the health of popular recreational swimming and boating sites.
Our reaches are from the Williams River at our northern most sampling site to the Whetstone Brook in Brattleboro. We are seeking other concerned citizens in these watersheds to volunteer and help us grow and expand our role. Consider volunteering or contributing to support SeVWA’s efforts in beautiful southeastern Vermont. We are the Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance.
We are happy to announce that SACC (Stratton Area Concerned Citizens) have merged with SeVWA. Their members are now members of SeVWA.

Peggy O'Neill
Formerly of Newfane, now Winhall, a real estate agent with TPW in Bondville. Peggy taught in Boston, and has founded a nonprofit.
Cris White
A Williamsville native that spent every warm summer day of my childhood in the Rock River. BUHS graduate, Mom of 5, Nana to 8 who all love the river. Volunteer and community activist. I love working with eager, creative, committed people. I found that in SEVWA!
Gloria Cristelli
A teacher for thirty years overseas, formerly the Town Clerk of Newfane. Aside from SEVWA, Gloria also volunteers with Newfane Anew Community Volunteers.
Jeremy Schrauf
After a career in collective bargaining and labor economics., Jeremy focused on education and volunteer services in the arts, Scouting, and helping the environment. He has a series of big jumps from advisory roles in government to management to teaching adults and children. However, he finds that things he learned along the way are helping SEVWA to grow and diversify. He lives in Wardsboro.
Stuart Strothman
Stuart has been an educator in SE Vermont for over twenty years. He has coauthored a history of Putney, Vermont (2003) and has an historical novel of the colonial period in our area (2011). He was president of the Putney Historical Society during the acquisition and renovation of the Putney General Store and what is now Next Stage. A longtime member of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, he handled AV at a press conference on water quality at the US Capitol building in June 2017, working with Clearwater's Manna Jo Greene. He lives in Brattleboro.
